NL/2017/03 Tung Chung New Town Extension – Reclamation and Advance Works

CHENG Cho-wai - Build King - SCT Joint Venture
SCA 2020 General Practitioner - Outstanding Award

Practices

This project includes reclamation work and the associated environmental mitigation measures.
To enhance sustainable construction, this project applies discarded concrete blocks obtained from
Tseung Kwan O Area 137 Construction Waste Sorting Facility and other construction sites for the
Tung Chung site hoarding erection work, access construction and demarcation. This reduces the
application of mobile plant, carbon emission and timber consumption compared with the
traditional method.

Second-hand concrete blocks are used to erect site hoarding. The recycling of concrete blocks can reduce the burden of Tseung Kwan O Area 137 Construction Waste Sorting Facility.
Second-hand concrete blocks are used to erect hoarding. This can reduce the cost of self production of concrete blocks and the pollutants produced by using a massive amount of plants.
Lots of demarcation of haul road and pedestrian access are essential on the large reclaimed land. The use of second-hand concrete plates is environmentally friendly and reduces the construction time .
