This is the first contract of the “Relocation of Sha Tin Sewage Treatment Works to Caverns” project, including site formation, access tunnel, access road, Community Liaison Centre. This project implements various innovation technologies from planning to design and construction, such as digitalisation, MiC and DfMA. We adopt various energy, carbon and waste reduction measures. This project successfully inspires the community, the construction industry and young talent to promote sustainable development.
A brand-new and advanced Sewage Treatment Works (STW) is being built at Nui Po Shan Caverns, and to release the existing site for other beneficial uses. This project fully implements carbon reduction strategies with BEAM Plus accreditation and carbon audit implementation plan, to promote renewable energy. We emphasise public engagement and adopt innovation technologies to promote low carbon initiatives.
This project initiates various strategies of carbon emission reduction such as solar energy for street lights, reused waste wood as furniture, a rain garden at the Community Liaison Centre, protection of natural flora species, AI environmental monitoring and use of highest grade B100 biodiesel and waste reduction by the best use of material and establishment of alternative disposal grounds.
We proactively adopt innovation technologies to manage the sites, implementation of Digital Works Supervision System to reduce paper consumption and enhance workflow, use of 4D CAVE and BIM to ease the design and adopt MiC and DfMA for construction of the Community Liaison Centre and a temporary steel bridge. As a result this has significantly reduced the associated impact on the public and carbon emission.
